The Global Wireless Summit (GWS) is a premier annual conference series, technically sponsored by the IEEE South Africa Session Joint Chapter on Communications and Signal Processing. It covers the latest advances in wireless communication technologies and enjoys a worldwide participation rate of about 400 leading experts. In 2017, its 7th edition will be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa under the theme “Towards a virtualized communications world – Challenges and Opportunities".
The conference will bring together academia, industry and standardization bodies to explore activities, trends and future challenges towards ICT globalization and the rapid progress in digitization of smart cities, particularly in the automotive, industry 4.0, eHealth, energy, safety, maritime, and eGovernment sectors. The conference also includes papers on architectural issues in existing and future wireless technologies, such as sensor networks, 5G, software-defined networks, radio access technologies and embedded communications. The conference series also encompasses issues in network softwarization, cognitive and self-organizing networks, mobile edge computing, fixed mobile convergence, network interworking and migration, recent advances in information theory and its application, as well as Internet of Things (IoT) and multimedia applications and services.
A key emphasis of this year's conference is interdisciplinarity - bridging across industries, public and private companies, universities, faculties and other knowledge societies in exploration of the newest wireless technologies pursuing new ways of communicating, new business models as well as innovative and sustainable solutions for the future.
Selected Papers from the 2017 Global Wireless Summit (GWS) will be published in a Special Issue of Wireless Personal Communications: An International Journal by Springer.
